Spotlighting Activism: Speakers’ Corner

In the first ever issue of CAPE’s Spotlighting Activism project, we take a closer look at Singapore’s very own Speakers’ Corner. As our uniquely designated “free speech” area, what are its roles, strengths, and limitations in airing citizens’ views and fostering democracy? By exploring its history and development, and the many ways it has been used by activists to support their causes, we hope you can consider these questions more deeply and gain a further understanding of activism in the Singaporean context.

Spotlighting Activism is a project under CAPE’s Activism Archive’s team which aims to detail the role activism plays in Singapore – which can be difficult to source – into easily digestible formats. Through infographics such as these, we hope to encourage readers to be more active citizens, with a greater comprehension of the ways in which we can participate in civic issues.
